A fitness band for five year olds?   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.     Mom and dad may wear one…and now LeapFrog has announced wearable fitness technology for kids….typically 4 to 7 years old.   The forty dollar Leap Band will arrive this summer.   It has a color screen and games that encourage kids to get moving through a virtual pet and more.   Brand Manager Daniel Shaw…

“First off the device has an accelerometer similar to what you see in those adult devices that are out there.  So it’ll be able to track movement, not just walking.  So hand movements, arm movements, all day long, all that activity will be tracked.  In addition to that, there’ll be specific activity challenges like hop like a bunny, jump like a kangaroo that the kids really, really love that gives them ten seconds of being super duper active and really engaging in the device.”

Parental controls will allow moms and dads to determine when kids can access activities.  So during school hours and at night the Leap Band can be set to function only as a watch.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
