Microsoft jumps into digital health with Microsoft Band

Techstination feature for Tuesday, November 11, 2014

Microsoft’s big launch into digital health.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   While it now looks like the Apple Watch won’t hit the market until the spring of next year…Microsoft is out now with the Microsoft Band.   And while it won’t run all the apps Apple has planned…it can do an awful lot…and very well.  It has all of the usual fitness band functions in addition to built in GPS and a heart rate sensor that works even while you’re working out.  And it ties in with the new open Microsoft Health Platform.   GM for personal devices marketing Matt Barlow…

“It’s a one stop cloud service that allows you to aggregate, then analyze and share, fitness related information from any device and working with any phone, iOS, Android, even Windows Phone.”

The Microsoft Band is priced at 200 dollars.  In addition to the health and fitness data, it can get notifications from smartphones too.  And that means iPhones, Android and Windows Phones.   You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
