Can a USB thumb drive be secure?     I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.   Those little flash memory drives make it easy to store back ups of photos and documents of all kinds.   But their size can make them easy to lose.   A company called Apricorn makes solutions that add some serious security.   The latest is the Aegis Secure Key 3.0.   It adds on the fly encryption and a physical keypad lock.  The importance?   Marketing Manager Walter Fiorentini…

“One of our biggest segments is in health care.  Our products are very, very good for taking care of HIPA compliance.  And the breaches that you hear about a lot are typically …someone goes in…steals a couple of laptops from a medical office …fifty thousand patient records are compromised.  Our devices take care of that and so if anybody steals them they’re not going to be able to do anything with it.”

The keypad locks require PINS of at least 7 digits.   The security is serious and pricing starts at about 200 dollars.  You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
